Weakness

Support

Yesterday afternoon I went to the Olive Tree Spa around the corner with my companion, who was in New York for a few days.
My more regular manicurist was unavailable, so we decided to go to the Olive Tree Spa for a manicure and a pedicure.
Four ladies were working on us; two of them were from Korea, one was from Japan and the other from Equador.
My companion had to catch a plane later that evening.
“We have to leave at 18:30,” I said.
“Yes, yes,” the boss lady said.
The ladies gave us a variety of treatments, which we could not refuse, for their English was unintelligible.
Around 18:45 I managed to escape from yet another back massage.
The bill for the treatments came to approximately 660 dollars. Which is needless to say a bit ridiculous for a manicure, a pedicure, and some massage for two people.
I was not in the mood to dispute the bill. So I paid and we left.
My mother would have taken my behavior as yet another proof of my weakness. She may be right, but I would argue that some people are out there to take advantage of you.
That’s their job. Let them do their job.
I was merely supporting the US economy, or perhaps the Korean economy. I cannot support all economies, but god knows I do my best to support as many of them as possible.

If you purchase a car or electronic equipment or jewelry or some other product for which the price asked by the seller usually can be negotiated down substantially, do you negotiate or simply pay the price the seller is asking?

And if a waiter brings you something different from what you ordered, do you send it back and ask him to correct the mistake or do you simply eat what the waiter brings to your table?
Reinout
I usually eat what the waiter brings.
Rarely do I say: "I didn't order this."
@Reinout W
It is a bit more complicated when you receive the bill after a certain service (for a car or jewelry, you can see the price beforehand and negotiate).
All this because that kind of behavior is also very familiar to me (and the reproaches too) (and the silly arguments too) (and I seldom negotiate).
Ah…
with this bill I would try to escape trought the wc window, no matter the floor.
Andrea
Why? It will be a shame to ruin such a manicure masterpiece. I would take photos of my nails and sell them.
Arnon, my sweety, how can I take advantage of you?
You should change the title of your entry from "Weakness" to "Strength."
Arnon
I want to plunder and loot you. Give me a hint.
neria
but i could sell pictures of me escaping trought the wc window.
how cool is that?

I just did a little math- So I know, that one your afternoon at a spa has the same value as 25liters of my blood.

wow, that is fun.
Andrea
Not if you plan to jump from a high floor. But you gave me an idea, how about a cooperation? If you plan to jump anyway you may let me know in advance and I'll take the photos and sell them. You're absolutely right, I think they'll sell better than the nails...
Andrea
Does one litter of blood costs only 26.4 USD? I shouldn't be amazed that blood is so cheap but I am...
Andrea
Now I wonder how much one litter of a manicurist's blood worths.
Neria
yes, very cheap.

no, I cannot work with you, I want to sneak out quietly, with tears im my eyes when no one is watching. so after I can lie about the floor and make myself look kinky.
Andrea
I'm very conservative; I couldn't understand the other half of the your last comment (I'm not kinky and I'm not quite). Anyway if you'll ever have second thoughts and will be looking to create an artistic collaboration with an artistic soul (with a great need for cash) I'll be here! :) (unless, of course, someone will kick me first out of a window. I'm quite sure there are many who wish to do so). Anyhow, we'll have to remember to bring plastic bags to collect the blood after the fall to maximize profits. Will it be too gross to collect the nails too?
Arnon, I do'n think your behavior shows your weakness. I am often not in the mood to dispute the bill, all kinds of bills. I mean personal bills: when I love somebody and he or she asks too much .
Sorry, for the double reaction. Something went wrong., I thought
