Herring

Two

Tonight I had dinner with two good friends.
After eating herring and drinking vodka one of them said: “Even despair has its limits.”

Nice t-shirt :)
So did he feel hope again?

Herring and vodka, that sounds like an awful combination.

Z!
Herring and vodka is a classic combination :)
I'll have pizza and green tea with DIeMutti tomorrow after having handed in my thesis. And then there will be fifteen precious days of imbecility before the semester starts and with it the preparations for my oral exams in February.
arnon
you 're so fond of that pic that you 're using it twice?
juliane
what is DleMutti? or is it "die mutti"???
was studierst du?
beata
DieMutti is one of my dearest friends. She left a somewhat unpleasant comment for Mr Grunberg some time ago.

I study Communications (Kommunikationswissenschaft), English (with focus on Book Studies) and Psychology.
Beata
This has nothing to do with fondness. I don't have that many pictures of my friend K. This appeared to be an appropriate picture to this entry.
arnon
Shouldn't it be: Tonight I had dinner with three good friends:
herring, vodka en K.?
arnon
Also with despair we move our limits.
despair
As the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation (Thoreau) you might as well drink vodka with anything.
limits??
maybe despair has limits but i dont know that geography (where is that found in the scriiptures or the lives of the saints? what store of lore r we buying from here?) but wtf

May I ask where do you study?
Jan
In Münster (North Rhine-Westphalia), Germany.
Aha
In Germany, that''s interesting. How does it work there when you finished psychology at university and you wanna work in psychiatry? What kind of extra studies or titles do you need to proceed, or to run your own practice?

(I mean, everybody can legally call himself a psychologist in Holland - I guess it's the same in Germany - but not everyone can calls himself a GZ-psychologist, psychotherapist, and some more registered titles.)
Jan
To work in psychiatry you need to do further training/postgraduate studies for a period of at least three years at your own expense. After passing your state examination you obtain your licensure as a psychotherapist (Psychologischer Psychotherapeut).

After I have completed my studies I will have a MA in Communications, which is my major subject, but neither in English nor in Psychology.
Juliane B.
Thanks. It seems the situation in Germany resembles the Dutch one, though I think there are more registrations in the Netherlands. The question is whether these are recognized in Germany. I will try to find it out elsewhere (I can understand these are difficult or rather boring questions for you - especially since you major in Communications and not in Psychology).

Are you of German or English ancestry? (or C, something else)
Jan
I am completely German.

Are you a psychologist or do you aspire to this profession?
arnon
where is that foto taken?
i have the idea, at the okura hotel.....
Juliane B.
Now I remember reading somewhere on this blog that you are a German sensualist.

Currently I work as a psychologist while studying the Dutch post-doc GZ-course (GZ stands for Health Care - the course is suited for psychologists and paediatrics only). But I aspire for something more psychodynamic, so the three year psychotherapy course would be a good 'next step'. Or maybe something sinister as neurofeedback. Some therapists have an obscure tool in their practice. I once went to a psychologist who used a vegameter, which wasn't obligatory. I didn't use this service which sometimes I regret.
juliane
i already thought, her english is great for someone from germany...
but now that i know you 're studying english, i understand. did you spend some time in an englishspeaking country or did you do an "auslandssemester" maybe?
juliane
wow!
du bist eine echt ein sehr gefragter typ in diesem blog!
Juliane
This is the sexiest thing you ever said to me.
mmmmmmmmm
did i miss something?
beata / Arnon
@ beata
I've never spent more than a few days in another country.
And I wouldn't say I'm much sought-after here if you compare these comments to those below earlier entries.

@ Mr Grunberg
Which of my comments are you referring to?
