A sign
Shit
Yesterday my mother told me in the hospital: “Please, don’t leave me alone here. Don’t go away.”
Today she told me: “How are things? Things are shit. And you only make it worse.”
This evening she called a good friend of mine and she told her: “My son is only coming two hours a day to visit me. What is he doing the rest of the day? I thought that he came to Amsterdam to visit me but I hardly see him.”
My friend answered: “First of all he is there every day from three to seven. Second, the remainder of the day he is working. He is always working, even during the weekends.”
‘Oh,” my mother said. “Oh.” And she hung up.
I may be too optimistic, but I believe that this is a sign of recovery.

i told you so: your mother is a sweet and sensible lady
courage ...
Oh la la, those willful, whimsical, strongheaded octogenarions. It's hard to keep up with them, but still. I'm living with one just like that.
Often, we forget all about the heart. When it comes to anxiety, there is only so much it can take.

do you ever feel the need to justify your actions?
An old man needs a nurse like in the picture above. Your mother needs a male nurse for woman's wishes with the same effect so she will not miss you in the wee hours.

What actions?
Looking forward to read she offered you some raspberries again soon.
She still hits you on the head, indeed a good sign. (at least, she does not ignore you)

What is your mother recovering from in the hospital?
Why is this friend of yours not visiting her? If your mother calls her, the relationship must be quite close?
When things are shit things they are getting better. Why don't you work in the hospital?
