Other people
Temptation
On Wednesday my mother left the hospital.
This afternoon I visited her in her home, together with my godson and his mother.
My sister was there as well. She gave my godson some of my old toy cars to play with.
My godson asked: “Can I borrow this toy car?”
“Of course,” I answered.
Five minutes ago my mother called me: “I don’t want your godson to steal my toy cars.”
“My toy cars you mean.”
“My toy cars,” my mother answered. “I take care of your toy cars so your children can play with them later. I’m now counting your toy cars to see if other people couldn’t resist the temptation either.”

Eww it's almost scary how I interpret the sensitive information given in this entry. I am jumping to all sorts of sorts of unpleasant conclusions.
A nice one is that your godson kindly asked to borrow the toy which I find nice. In my street I see only "Give me now!" followed by a smack on the head.
The cars are a symbol of her love.
It seems to me that a good case could be made for it, that your mother owns the car you used play with as a child.
Whether or not it is sensible to keep them for her as of yet inexisting grandchildren comes less natural to me.

A child will look great on you. Time to grant your mother's wish.
In that perspective, your mother and mine share the same opinion: everything still belongs to them. The difference is: your mother saves the objects for her eventual grandchildren, mine gave everything away, by preference to neighbours and strangers.
when your mother let people steal toycars it makes it easier for her to steal too and she wont let that happen, so praise your mother!
I'm growing an affection towards your mother.
arnon,
stop travelling, start to become a daddy. you are very talented.

Is this an offer I cannot refuse?
this is a very sweet post. my mom and i never had this conversation because i never had toys when i was growing up. i opted, however, to just play with my other siblings and the kids in the neighborhood.
