Sooner or later
Power
Recently, a friend asked why I had not written more about Israel on my site.
I answered: “Too much has already been written about Israel.”
But this op-ed piece by Toni Judt in today’s Times struck me as well informed and not so hysterical as many other pieces about this subject:
‘As American officials privately acknowledge, sooner or later Israel (or someone) will have to talk to Hamas. From French Algeria through South Africa to the Provisional I.R.A., the story repeats itself: the dominant power denies the legitimacy of the “terrorists,” thereby strengthening their hand; then it secretly negotiates with them; finally, it concedes power, independence or a place at the table. Israel will negotiate with Hamas: the only question is why not now.'

The situation in Belgium is catastrofic, at least that's what I think as long I don't take a look at Israel.
Sad songs are not selling this year.
“The time has come to cut through the clichés surrounding it, treat Israel like a “normal” state and sever the umbilical cord.” Sounds nice, although I would start with “loosen up the umbilical cord”.
@Mieke
My personal catastrophe these days is that I am unable to find you and your sculptures on facebook… (I am very unfamiliar with sites like twitter, facebook etcetera…)
Can you send me a link?
Ah Belgium :
‘Viva la bomma, patatten met saucissen
Viva la bomma, patatten met sala
En daarbij nen dikke cervela
Voor worst, voor frieten en voor vet…’

If you visit my facebookpage you should go to "albums", on the lower left side.
I love the rebirth thing. That's really great. I'd love to see that in bronze. Wax... Not my cup of tea. Speaking of which, I'm heaving White Tea.

Will you be my sponsor?
morning tea @ Dens
Lapsang Souchong in my cup today...
Not so rare nor handpicked, but a real wake me up kind of tea.
@Mieke
‘Umbilical Cord’ is still one of my favorites.
‘Snake man’ makes me think about the imposed exercises when I was a baby-toddler. Breaking point indeed.
Thanks.
Bernard
A minor detail. It's a snake woman, a female artist.

The painting with the trees I called "Berkenkruis". Does that ring a bell?
Later than ... (@ Mieke)
My pref. : Oh Brother & Ombilical cord
Thank you
@Mieke
Berkenkruis or todesrune, of course, but I cannot find this painting on your links.

Three trees groing in my mother's garden. Looking peaceful, don't they.
I tried to reproduce the nazi ideology, but from the inside, how it is to grow up in a family like that.
The painting is full of nazi symbolism.
The trees (three) standing up refer to the rune sign 'Lebensbaum': Young stays the life that leads to eternity. Up side down you can distinguish the 'Berkenkruis' the deathrune, referring to all the lives that were given for Germany. Life and death in one.
Three also stands for the group , the family, in camouflage, the need for survival.
It represents the mythical heimat.
You can't see this on the photo, but I deliberate let it border on the edge of kitzsch. But maybe I just produced a fine example of nazi-art.
@Mieke
Very good! (I am afraid real Nazi or any ideological art, does not have so much layers)
