Girl

Handcuffs

On Monday night I had drinks at Bemelmans with a Spanish poet.
The poet presented himself as a Casanova who believed that time has come for penitence.
He turned out to be extremely pleasant company.
At a certain point he said: “Look, they are torturing this woman.” First I thought that he was joking, but indeed, a slightly overweight woman who appeared to be in her forties was handcuffed by a heavy black man, after that she started crying and then she was quickly led away.
The pianist played along, everybody acted as if it’s totally acceptable to handcuff slightly overweight women in an upscale bar.
The Spanish poet asked a waiter: “Excuse me, but what did the lady do? Was she a thief?”

“No,” the waiter said. “Not at all, we just had to handcuff her.”

Tonight a friend told me: “Perhaps the Carlyle Hotel [Bemelmans is part of the Carlyle] doesn’t want to have slightly overweight prostitutes on its premises. You can be a working girl, but you should be presentable.”

If this is the case we should protest. There are human rights.

This reminds me of a local restaurant which used to (I don't know if they still do it) hand out little envelopes to handicaped eaters. In this envelope there was a little card supposedly saying:

"Please leave the restaurant in silence. No costs are charged. Thank you."
Handcuffing a fat lady, in a public place, by a bouncer? America has really lost it this time. They are in a stage that nobody believes the outside anymore and start acting brutal, they have lost their patience (even Obama with McChristal and v.v.) I think the old and wise Europe must jump in and help, act Arnon!
@ Dens

Maybe the restaurant acted like that because the handicaped eaters handed enveloppes with notes asking for money because they lost their speech.

And how did the restaurant handle the blind? They have the worst eating habbits of them all.
But what to do with elderly handicapped slightly overweighted working girls? Kill them on the spot?

Well, old europe is working out some problems on their own first;)

I don't think a blind person ever ate there. But that assumption is purely based on the percentage of blind people I know (O%).

At first I thought the overweight lady and the black man were acting out some sadomasochistic roleplay. In that case I would have liked the waiter's reaction that it just 'had to be done'.

To the best of my knowledge the black man was a private eye, working for The Carlyle.
Arnon
Didn't know you like them slightly overweight;)
No handcuffs in Ludwig's murals , I wager.

Arnon just doesn't discriminate.
A worthy cause for protesting. I am in horrible mood by the way.
This is what happens when you abolish gender or race discrimination; they will discriminate now by weight, money in the pocket, clothes, breast size or whatever… People are very creative in satisfying their needs.
