Guest list

Until their guns went silent

The Foreign Press Center in New York is kind enough to send me updates on all kind of events on a regular basis.
Regarding tonight’s State of The Union the Foreign Press Center sent me the guest list of the first lady’s box. Among the invitees was Sergeant Tommy Rieman:

Sergeant Tommy Rieman, USA Sergeant Tommy Rieman was a teenager pumping gas in Independence, Kentucky, when he enlisted in the United States Army. In December 2003, he was on a reconnaissance mission in Iraq when his team came under heavy enemy fire. From his Humvee, Sergeant Rieman returned fire - and used his body as a shield to protect his gunner. He was shot in the chest and arm, and received shrapnel wounds to his legs - yet he refused medical attention, and stayed in the fight. He helped to repel a second attack, firing grenades at the enemy's position until their guns went silent. For his exceptional courage, Sergeant Rieman was awarded the Silver Star.

As experts say, soldiers tend to fight rather for each other, not for a country or an ideal. This comradeship is well known and used by commanders. (By the way, my father was special forces, transmission & intelligence.)
If he had died, he wouldn't only get a silver medal, but also a tear from mister Bush. That's what we all do it for, tears of mister Bush.
I'd like to see the day that the Dalai Lama sheds a tear for me, alas one must be courageous and noble and smart and friendly to get even close.
