Bad news

Good news

In yesterday’s Herald Tribune Thomas L. Friedman writes: ‘I was on vacation when the story broke that 11 Russians had been charged as sleeper agents planted in America by Moscow’s spy agency to gather intelligence on the United States and to recruit moles who could gain access to our top secrets. My first reaction was: This may be the greatest gift to America by a foreign country since France gave us the Statue of Liberty. Someone still wants to spy on us! Just when we were feeling down and out, the Russians show up and tell us that it’s still worth briefcases of money to plant people in our think tanks. Subprime crisis or not, some people think we’ve still got the right stuff. Thank you, Vladimir Putin! Upon reflection, though, it occurred to me that this is actually a good news/bad news story. The good news is that someone still wants to spy on us. The bad news is that it’s the Russians.’

This is an important truth; it’s awful for a state when no one wants to spy on it.
I guess that even some individuals would feel useless when they realize that there is not a single secret service in the world that is interested in their activities.

The reader as a spy. Does that comfort you?
I returned from a holiday yesterday. The friend I went on holiday with has a knack for spying. He feels he's under constant threat. Some call it schizophrenia, others call it a scream for attention. I just know it's exhausting.

Does this mean the US is in a paranoid state of schizophrenia after the attention of the rest of the world on what's happening in that country is running towards 'why should we care about it' ?
Old habits
Friedman: "But let’s also remember that being spied on by the Russians today is not an honor. It’s just an old habit."

I don't think one should ever underestimate the power of "old habits".

I still don't understand what the alleged Russian spies were spying on. None of them were in a position to uncover any important state secrets. Apparently, Anna Chapman was dating a promiment NY restaurant owner at the time of her arrest. Did the Kremlin want his secret recipes?

At least the alleged spies weren't waterboarded (as far as we know). That treatment seems to be reserved for Muslims.
Anya Kushchenko (Chapman) can spy on me anytime she wants...what a babe !!!
The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.
Or maybe some can use Dali’s paranoiac critical method …
As long it isn't bad news about your mother.

If the Mossad is bothering you again let me know.
