Heroin
Manipulation
Mitchell LaFortune, a former US Army sergeant and intelligence analyst, wrote an op-ed piece in today’s Herald Tribune about Afghanistan:
“The key to turning around the war will be to change that dynamic. In fact, we must clamp down on the three things the Taliban do particularly well: manipulating the news media, intimidating the rural population and providing shadow governance.”
If US intelligence analysts start accusing the Taliban of being formidable spinmeisters then there are two possibilities: either the war is definitely lost, or this particular intelligence analyst is high on heroin.

Interesting selection of the news, as well as your comment in 'the volkskrant' about paying for the trucks on that new road. Maybe it just means that the work is finished, they can now manage it all by themselves in simular ways we do business. Its kind of depressive, although i just bought the new Yes Man cd which makes these depressive things funny at the same time.
The survival ball might helpt them to finally win the war.
It is an undeniable fact that we in the West, have great analysts. Everywhere.
Perception
Everyone knows the war is lost. The problem is how to create the perception of not having lost.
Win/loose?
Its by the way funny how we seem to talk about winning/losing automatically, without having a clue on what that means in this war. This seems like a ''created war'' more then any other, searching for an oponent all the time while they are themselves into war, as tribes in the middle ages.

Yesterday I took of for Germany in a Punto crossing the Meuse at Greve. On alien territory ( things around had changed into prosperity in a matter of seconds ) we headed for Kleve.
My mother immediately nearly ran a police-officer over.
On a terrace near maison Koekoek - apparently some dutch landscape artist died there, the maiden said:
"Danke schön, Ich wünsche Sie ein schöne Tag und ein weitere Woche".
Visiting a spacious park founded by Maurits round 1620 with trees that looked as old - we had lunch and got lost in amazing suburbs and feared never to be able to get out going in circles - but are save now:
Back at Langeboom taking care of two Buddhist Maine Coon cats near a military airbase.
Anyone knows this paranoia never to be able to get out of Germany following "Umleitung"?
Getting in was easy.

Picture of the day
for a moment I thought the picture was of Arnon.
Don't hurd yourself Josiane.
You are on
O, Arnon. They - the US. - military, finaly started paying there respects to the enemy by sniffling great heroins.
Maybe they invented your fathers horses, but let us now be crossing the Atlantic - Pacific, happily driving a pair of mulls..
This is bullshit.
No shit
Probably the truth is that Team Obama couldn't give a shit about AfPak. The sale they have to make is persuading Americans to vote Obama in the mid-term elections. I'm sure Messrs Axelrod and Plouffe would just love the tea-partiers and GOP to attack Obama over a an unpopular war in a faraway primitive country. No matter what the official line is, Wikileaks is a Godsend for Obama. What a wonderful way to deflect attention to how the conflict was mismanaged under the Bush-Cheney administration. It's so brilliant I almost suspect Axelrod and Plouffe of setting the whole thing up.
Flee distract me from seeing.
