Crème brûlée

Friend

Last night I had dinner with one of my oldest friends.
We drank vodka; we ate herring, potato salad, noodles and crème brûlée.

At the end of the evening my friend said: “I will give you some potato salad and crème brûlée for your mother. Perhaps she likes my potato salad and my crème brûlée.”

And ? was it so ?
Add some latkes and I think you have the perfect meal for my most precious Lotte.
I would always go for Beethoven's favourite desert instead of the rather loud creme brulee, you can present it by singing: Tarte Ta Tin..., Tarte Ta Tin... and the whole table will sing along, happily ever after.
the potato salad
i bet your friend is a Pool
1. 'the fish has to swim'
2. they always give some food away
3. the potato salad, with carrot, onion, cornichons, eggs and mayo by any chance?
3a. even creme brulee fits the picture
Iz
I think his name is Karol.
Potato salad and Crème brûlée. I can't shake off the feeling that I'm marrying into the wrong kind of Polish family. It's mostly pierogi and kisiel here.
Every time I visit this blog, I get hungry... The continuous mentioning of limoncello, the cherries, the pinda sauce and today, creme brulee. I now imagine Mr Grunberg living in a giant pantry, stuffed with food and drinks.
Sometimes I spray perfumes on myself before I go to bed. Does this mean I love myself?

You can also take a shower.

For some reason I don't smell as good after a shower. Maybe I don't smell it, but it always seems that others smell great after a shower. I remain neutral.
The parfum I spray is so beautifully balanced.
Mieke/Iz
Yes, Mieke, that's my name and no, Iz, there were no carrots, no eggs in the salad and alas I forgot to brule the creme before giving it away. Still hope that Arnons mother liked it.
Herring
I seem to miss the connection between the potato salad and the perfume.
Whatever kind of potato salad was involved, your friend is wise to leave out the vodka for your mother.
Karol
My mother loved your crème brûlée, but when she was finished eating she asked me: “What was it actually that I was eating?”
Arnon
A very good and meaningful question, since I forgot to put sugar on top of the creme and to burn it
Karol
I am rereading "Grunberg rond de wereld". You were present at his
betrothal with Elayne? Now I'm jealous.
Karol
I read the review of your last translation (Schimmering) in the Volkskrant last week and just bought the book. I'm looking forward to read it. We briefly met in Leiden CS after Arnon's church reading there about a year ago. When I'll see you again somewhere I can give you some feedback.
