Worth trying
Pitying look
The other night I saw the movie “Brüno” for the second time – well, at least most of it.
“Brüno” wasn’t as funny as I remembered, but still good for a few laughs.
I watched the movie together with a good friend of mine and she didn’t laugh at all. When I was laughing she gave me a pitying look.
Can you love somebody who doesn’t like “Brüno”?
Perhaps it’s worth trying.

Your friend has taste, good for her. But you!
try
ok, i'll give it a try then, but i somewhat fear disappointment after borat..
Can you love somebody who doesn't like steamed mussels?
Insecurities
On a deep level, many of Sacha Baron Cohen's jokes are based on male insecurities. It is no wonder, then, that many women do not find much to laugh about. The ones that do may well be laughing at male insecurities. In fact, I think many women secretly find men quite hilarious. Our penises are probably our one saving grace. That and knowing how to fix things like plumbing.
Not that Cohen's characters - Ali G, Borat and Bruno - bring out male fragilities. For that one has to look to something like Mad Men, in which Don Draper's many fragilities and infulfillments are are quite excellently depicted.
It is, but it won't work out.
I didn't like Brüno, but I hardly remember anything of it, so that counts for little.
done
i just watched it; I'd say i liked it but I'm not proud of it...
I found it hard to say what was staged and what wasn't..in that way it made thought of Travels in Hyperreality by Umberto Eco , but only that way...
Arnon
How is my beloved Hannelore doing? Is she happy with her Philippine companion? Wouldn't it be nice to have a small picknick in the dunes , all together? Noordwijk isn't that far from Amsterdam. Some fresh seabreeze might do your mother good.
Brüno wasn't that funny. It seemed a bit too forced in comparison to Borat. I did a lot of (well or suffered from) Fremdschämen, nonetheless. Those movies are definitely men-movies. My fiancé and his brother nearly wet themselves with laughter in the cinema.
Arnon, the idealist
I also think you should try it - but then again, I have not seen the movie.

Don't waste your energy - love Brüno.
I'll make it easy on you. I don't like Sacha Baron Cohen. I don't think he's a funny Jew.
home town
Hi Arnon,
You should visit Katwijk, my home town. Just a few miles away but in some ways very different from Noordwijk.
By the way, I have an ex-girlfriend who lived in Noordwijk, but that's an other story.
As if you can only love someone who is exactly like you! Can't you enjoy your differences? Isn't that love?
