State

Means

In his collection “Means without an End’ Giorgio Agamben writes: “And that is so not really or not only because power no longer has today any form of legitimization other than emergency, and because power everywhere and continuously refers and appeals to emergency as well as laboring secretly to produce it.”

This is undoubtedly true. The state nowadays has one raison d’être: the state of emergency.

It is necessary for him who lays out a state and arranges laws for it to presuppose that all men are evil and that they are always going to act according to the wickedness of their spirits whenever they have free scope.
Niccolo Machiavelli
Checking the index of the shock doctrine of naomi klein i see he is actually not (?) quoted in this book. Didn't know him, but ihis work sounds interesting.

Thanx.

The state, well, we always need to fight against a possible ''1984'' or ''brave new world'' i think., in whatever new structure or so it present itself.

@Bernard
Thanx, i will consider it, it's on my maybe list of books. I do not have the brain of Grunberg probably so i have to choose what i will read;)

Nice picture. Where did you find it?
@Milan
Apparently Huxley was right.

I've put a link in the tag.
@H AN
Personally i also see simularities with bnw and some of the modern developments...(was the title 'the possibility of an island' of houellebecq not a reference too island of huxley by the way? Never looked it up, but it seems pretty obvious too me, although irrelevant)
@H an
I saw the link, nicely illustrated summary indeed.

But i do not agree with this right/wrong. I think both visions can become true. In some countries 1984 is more applicable and in some bnw. As said i think of those visions as warnings, it can always acuure.

Do you really feel we are living a bnw in western countries? and what about the other countries?
Milan
"acuure" - What's this? 'occur' ?
You really swerve off the track don't you?
@Bert
Saw that as well after my posting, but i didn't feel like correcting it with an extra posting Have you made up your mind already on translating my work into english?
