We need to talk about self-deprecation

Do you know who’s Lionel Shriver? She’s an author and won the Orange Prize for fiction with her novel We Need to Talk About Kevin.
In Monday’s New York Times she declares: “I’m as capable as anyone of manipulative self-deprecation. It’s obviously a ploy, but I don’t think it’s an obligation.”

She has a point.
I’m waiting for a manifesto called Against Self-Deprecation.

And yet you lead the dance my friend, no way out, not even for me.

I like this self-irony. As long as you know that you use it (as a humor) and not to loath yourself. Bah, how I hate that. Self-Loathing.
I think jews are supposed to use self-deprecation, otherwise they will remain be named "those rats from the early days". But if you do this thing Shriver is talking about, you integrate yourself in normal society, showing that you are no more (nor less) than anyone else.
Trump is no self deprecatior.
You are right Dens, but please do not hate any feelings. We are not solely responsible for our feelings, for are actions maybe.

And I thought I was good looking. And then came Arnon Grunberg to show me up.
