Basle

Young and blond

After a presentation of the Portuguese edition of “The Jewish Messiah” for some language students at the university a young, blond lady approached me.
She told me that she was from Basle.
“How funny,” I answered.
(An important part of “The Jewish Messiah” takes place in Basle.)
The lady said that she had expected a lecture on Christ.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
And she replied that she was sorry herself but she could not buy my book. As a religious Christian she had understood that many things in the novel are not suitable for religious Christians.
I thanked her for her honesty.

The Asylum Seeker
NNP (Nieuw Nederlands Peil), a group of students of Dutch language at Leiden University, organised an excellent play based on The Asylum Seeker, directed by Martijn Kager. A very intelligent script combined with outstanding leading roles of Christian Beck (Coen van Beelen), the Bird and not to forget the asylum seeker himself.
This was theatre at its best, I was thrilled.
Afterwards we drinked alot to forget about destruction and loss, to revitalize.
If you missed it, be there at the 18th or 19th of September.
Check out the Oeuvre section (Netherlands, The Asylum Seeker).
People say Christ was quite a lecturer himself. Some even suggest he still is.
I just realised ...
wouldn't it be nice to only comment to posts with one word only. For example 'Geurnica' or 'Rosebud'. One could rest assured about spelling and in a lot of cases it will prove to be exactly the right comment to any blog post.

Some people use the word 'cold' a lot.
Arnon, how is your health doing. You made us wurry
... worry like hell yesterday.
@Sander, a change request
The "Cancel" and "OK" button are very close to each other, leading to unwanted typos. Could you change this ?.
@Herman
In the upcoming version the OK and Cancel button will be further apart. Thanks for making the request. More feedback is welcome.
@johannes
I saw the asylum seeker in Gent. And your right , its a very good play. I suppose they took the same adaption.
Play
Dear Mieke, I didn't see the play in Gent, but this was a different adaption.
A young blond religious Christian lady who expected a lecture on Christ by Arnon Grunberg on his book The Jewish Messiah for language students at a university?
It seems to me a kind of sophisticated bad joke on stupid blonds. I do not buy that story or the girl must be a fraud. Or was it a wager?

Oostkantons
Jef Delvaux informed Sander that Belgium was not featured in the Oeuvre section. Sander aka 'The wizard' now made it possible to stroll via Belgium through the Dutch novels, performances etc. on the Grunberg worldmap.
I take the blame Belgium was not featured. The first person who can prove he/she is from the 'Oostkantons' (mail to: johannes@arnongrunberg.com), will receive a copy of the first edition of the Dutch/Belgian The Story of My Baldness.
For other omissions, please mail Sander or me.

Dear Arnon
Now i know where you got those irritated airways from: while receiving the Libris price, you were wobbling up and down on your toes. Do you know what i mean?
Jan Thys
The girl was extremely real. And I'm not sure if she was stupid, just very much into Christ.
…and looking for Jesus in all those places. Like so many man walking, by sheer coincidence, into a room with a half naked woman beneath a red light. Yes, I believe.
