It's a time for an Isaac Babel quote. From the story "Elya Isaakovich and Margarita Prokofievna" (translated by Peter Constantine): "Gershkovich came out of the police chief's office with a heavy heart. He had been informed that if he didn't leave Oryol on the first train, he would have to leave town in a chain gang. And leaving meant he would lose business."
On August 5, 2015 I was in Oryol, on my way from the Netherlands to Afghanistan.
That day I didn't think of Babel. We listened to Vysotski.
A mistake, every day is a good day to think of Isaac Babel.
