She grabs my hand

Securitate

I’m in Bucharest for the presentation of “The story of my baldness.” My publisher here, Denisa Comanescu, is utterly charming. Sometimes she grabs my hand and leads me to the next journalist.
My translator is charming as well.
During dinner we spoke extensively about the last days of Nicolae Ceausescu. According to my Romanian friends here the files of the Securitate were never really opened. The files about the informers are open now, but the files about the officers will probably be closed forever.

I hate that i have to submit my real name. I just wanted to comment on cats.
See for this book also: http://www.humanitas.ro/carti/carte.php?id=2413
and also for a Turkish translation: http://www.iskulturyayinlari.com.tr/tr/kitap_detay.asp?urun=277733

Arnon's books are now translated into 24 languages.
Which language will be the 25th ? Albanese? Time for a small party?
Jos W.
Arnon is becoming a multinational! Maybe that is the reason why he has become the target of some groupuscules, an inoffensive target although.
Nice picture on the book, by the way.
@Johannes
I think I know why some people seek a confrontation with Arnon now: it is all about the female mud wrestling event for peace. You simply trespassed on their private territory: peace and the burlesque. As you know, groupuscules are prone to eliminate rather those who resemble than their adversaries. I will never forget the bitter fighting between left wing groups, they hated each other more than their enemies, the so called crypto fascists. The other were always called ‘fake’, a key word in their vocabulary.

Who says you have to submit your real name? The registration form asks for a 'first name' and a 'last name' both of which you can make up, and you can set up a new account through gmail or hotmail (or use your own email, which we can't see, only a guy called Sander can see). BUT that having been said - it's wonderful to come across somebody who's real, and feels she should give honest answers to questions. Who knows, you may well become the new Ilanit!
For all sake, I am real.
Did I ever tell you the first language I spoke was Rumanian?
To Tess
Yes, I am aware of that. I was actually joking :)
To Tess
And.. what is 'special' about Ilanit? I am new here.
My fourth entry: I just finished Omdat ik U begeer. I've read it with appetite, which was satisfied. I don't have questions. Except: how long do you grow your nails, Arnon? (There's a huge gap existing of millimeters between this and that).
yes, nice cover indeed.
What's the meaning of the metal ball?
Can it be explained as: the main charachter of the book
is so hungry for 'love' that he even would make
love to a metal ball? The ultimate 'amour-fou'?

Arnon,
what does one discuss about the last days of Nicolae and Elena.
Or the last hours for that matter, hours in which his cronies Popescu (Propaganda) and Nicolae Stan (chief bodyguard) did nothing...
The man Ceaucescu was held in fairly high regard by western leaders because of his independent course behind the iron curtain. Little did they know (or did they) about his home policy.
Did you know that Nicolae was very much afraid of Vlad ? (and vampires in general)

This evening, in the editorial for the newspaper De Morgen that is titled 'Ceci n'est pas une crise' (Belgians like to refer to surrealism as it comes to explain their political system) Yves De Smet wrote:

'In plaats van nu enkele dagen, al was het voor de vorm, de crisis verder uit te diepen, mekaar de zwarte piet toe te spelen, kortom, alle rituelen uit te voeren die een echte crisis kenmerken, werd zowat onmiddellijk de piste van de noodregering met een beperkte opdracht gelanceerd. Zo snel zelfs, dat het bijna afgesproken leek.'

You can read the whole editorial at http://www.demorgen.be/dm/nl/995/Edito/article/detail/51111/Ceci-n-est-pas-une-crise.dhtml

Have a nice evening.
Arnon
For a moment I thought it was you on the cover.
My compliments for your article in NRC Next yesterday. Very clear and interesting.

The original version of the article was published in NRC Handelsblad on Friday November 2.
