Energy
Linz
This morning I had shooting lessons in the Austrian city of Linz.
The weather was awful so we decided to shoot inside, which meant that we could not shoot with rifles.
I shot with the Glock 27, the Glock 30 and the Springfield XD. By far the Springfield XD was my favorite.
It makes the sense that the National Rifle Association recently chose the Springfield XD as gun of the year.

My instructor said: "A bullet gives energy to the body it enters."
Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz said almost the same thing. So for all weary people: 'Shoot yourself or have a Red Bull or mix those energizers.'

what a creepy comment...
Arnon
why on earth do you take shooting lessons?
@Arnon
If you want to expand your experience with guns and rifles to hunting, I can organise that for you. An oncle of mine lives in the Cévennes in the south of France and is a passionate hunter. You might like the experience. Or do you you prefer aiming at people?
There is some irony involved to take shooting lessons in Linz (Ein junger Mann aus Linz…). Whatever comments, it feels great to shoot, doesn’t it. (Do not worry, I do not aim at people nor animals any more).
The shooting lessons are related to your new novel, as you told us before, I suppose.
“A bullet gives energy to the body it enters.” By the way, is your instructor a young (wo)man? Typical positive newspeak. Sometimes words are more lethal than bullets.
Mieke, but what's your personal opinion on hunting? I say: hunting is fine, as long as the hunter is willing to take off his clothes, climb a tree, wait until he sees a fox or a rabbit, then jump on it and rip the rabbit's neck to pieces using only his teeth and nails.
As for guns: Arnon - a friend of mine is an FBI-agent and always carries a Glock in her purse. It feels weird drinking margherita's with her. I'd almost want some man to try and rape me in the toilets so she can come in, stick her gun in his crack and shout "FREEZE! FBI.." How (n)e(u)rotic.
Perhaps you'd like to speak to her sometime. She's in LA.

People are weake, we should be giving energy to the body we enter.
@Wulfy - you are most likely a man.
@ Noa
Are you a vegetarian, Noa? This line of reasening only doesn't sound hypocritical when it comes from a veggie. In any other circumstance we have to acknowledge the fact that to some degree weapons and violence are necessary to obtain your food. If you hunt with intelligence and respect for nature, using for example every piece of the animal you have killed, like my oncle does, then I have no moral objections against hunting.
@ Noa
The only personal experience I have with killing animals are oysters and lobsters and even having to kill those animals gave me a growing awareness and respect for their lives. None the less they still tasted great.
@Noa
Your phantasms equal and - I must admit – sometimes slightly surpass mine’s. A comfort nevertheless.
@ Noa
You shouldn't understand everything in a sexual way (that 's a way of thinking reserved to us men) , entering can also be with words, ideas, attention, ...things that should be positive but are mostly meant negative.
Who is really prepared to do something really good to someone if this means you'll have to do an effort, and even for free?
Shooting -figurative- is clearly harder, faster and easier.
Mieke/Jan
@Mieke, I don't see why a veggie could get away with an argument as above and noone else can. Do veggies have more empathy than people who eat meat? You don't have to be black to understand what it must be like to be black, par example. I don't have to be a rabbit, to understand what it must be like to be shot in the heart by some hunter (who decides to eat all of me and on top of it stuff me for his kids whereas my kids are wondering why I suddenly disappeared), just as I'm going about my day, doing my thing.
As for vegetarianism, show me the first completely consistent human being (other than Jesus perhaps, but he is a fiction too) and I'll go with your line of reasoning. Lots of vegetarians fly planes and spill water.
To answer your question though - I don't eat meat, I do eat fish. And I do cook meat for my friends.
@ Jan, what are phantasisms?
Wulfy - I like it hard, fast and easy. Perhaps then, you are my man.
Forgot the word, 'not' - 'not my man'.
@Noa
You ask me what phantasms are? You must be kidding. A wish, an imagination, a daydream ,whatever…
Restaurant Agathon, Linz
Shooting lessons makes a writer hungry so you can have dinner at the Agathon (Chef steht am Herd) in Kapuzinerstraße 46, where they serve im Herbst Wildspezialitäten.
@ Noa
It even takes a knife and force to open an oyster. Jumping on top of it naked and trying to bite it with bared teeth would only harm yourself.
Next time you fantasise about rape, there is nothing erotic about it. It's a cold, very cold act and extremely intrusive and emotional devastating.
@Mieke
I understood Noa’s phantasm was more about revenge, but of course I could be mistaken.
Mieke
A fantasy is usually not a wish for that what one fantasizes about to happen.
My advise is if you fantasise about something that you take all the negative side effects take in account.
Mieke
Hands off my fantasies, please.
Mieke
I'd like to learn more about the negative side effects of fantasizing.
a bullet gives energy to the body it enters
In this sense? when a bullet enters a body it completely wreaks havoc to the internal organs and causes 'a chain of reactions' inside the body.
Or: a bullet gives energy to the body that shoots the bullet?
@Mieke/Jan - Jan's right about the interpretation of the fantasy, read closely.
@ Noa
I think the real thrill is to take a life in order to celebrate life.
@Mieke, so this is what people who kill feel and do. Does this justify the act of killing?
Personally, I thought all the killing in life was more about trophies than anything else, ie ego.
@ Noa
About your fantasy. When your friend comes in for your rescue at the first phase of the rape, when he is using violence, you might find it rousing, if she comes in after the completion of the act , you will probably think: Bitch, you are too late.
@Mieke, as Oscar said - you shouldn't take things too literally. The mind, our thoughts, our fantasies are not always logical or controllable. If you tell yourself you need to stop thinking of pink elephants with yellow polkadots today, then you'll find yourself doing the reverse: you'll be seeing pink elephants with yellow polkadots in your mind's eye. It doesn't mean they exist.
