Honor

Shame

In the fall of 2004 I went for the first time to Lima to do some research for my novella “Monkey Grabbing Hold of Happiness.” The research consisted mainly of walking around in certain neighborhoods. Some people socialize easily, I believe I can be charming on certain occasions but to be good at socializing you need to get rid of all your shame. At the end I guess I like my shame better than I like socializing.
In the late summer of 2006 I went to back to Peru to visit Lori Berenson for a series of articles for a Dutch newspaper. I traveled together with Lori’s dad.
I have fond memories of that trip, but I could not help thinking of myself at certain moments as a peeping Tom.
I try to bring honor to the profession of peeping.

To fully appreciate these daily postings (I almost wrote, "our daily bread"; it must be the season) I think they are best regarded as the pictures' captions. It makes the obscenity of the phrase, "I like my shame better than I like socializing" less conspicuous.

It's easy to criticize one sentence. How would you rephrase it?
Recently I was thinking about what happens when a schoolteacher leaves the classroom (for some reasons I think a lot about schoolteachers these days). Some children start to destroy or disrupt furniture, others shout and scream or laugh excessively. It makes me think about the the city of Catchfools in the movie Pinocchio. But there are always some kids who sit quietly and observe. (Peeping Tom was a sadist and a voyeur, not merely an observer.)

To appreciate even a little bit of your comments and writings the reader has to be Jesus Christ himself.

It's a small step from being an observer to being a voyeur.

I enjoyed reading het aapje dat geluk pakt very much. I'm looking forward to what comes next.
As I'm reading Menuet (by L.P. Boon), I can agree.

You disappoint me, David. At least Mieke asks how I would rephrase. It's pretty bad that she needs to ask, but it's good that she asks before she makes any blanket statements.

People's only interest here is to maintain the status quo. It is not required to provide any support for any claim, as long as the main dogmas are left unquestioned. Other than that, anything goes - except for postmodernism of course, which is evil.

This site is a sect.

I've said this before and I say it now: stop crying. I ain't your mommy, I am your daddy.
David
You wish.
As for crying, how could I cry over something that is not mine? I am merely observing.

You are so dumb it isn't even funny anymore.
Here's a Christmas riddle: What's the difference between you and a Christmas tree?
If I were to summarize the events since I have been here, I would say that a Christmas tree grew out of a carrot. That's all. And David got a little upset when he ran out of arguments. But then, who needs arguments here?
@ Rutger
Somehow you remind me of a mistletoe. Maybe this is due to the time of yearbut I do think there is something about you that reminds me of a parasite. In your case your are living of the branches of your father's tree. None the less a mistletoe remains beautifull even if the berries are extremely poissonous.
Merry christmas.
Mieke
You are very close. I *am* in fact living off my father's tree. In that respect, I am no different than anyone else, including yourself. The only difference is that in my case, it is not a tree but a rhizome.

As for parasitism, I am not sure what you mean. I am about the only one here who does not feed on the BS served daily by their host.

Arguments for what exactly?
