Eighteen months
8%
Yesterday afternoon I went to my bank on Stephen’s Green.
My account manager, the fourth one in twelve months, seemed to be slightly nervous, but of course it is possible that her nervousness has no connection to the financial crisis.
She offered me (and all other customers) 8% interest on an 18-month deposit.
I decided to accept this offer.

I asked a loan at my bank in Italy and it will be at 6-7%, IF they accept because I have no regular income at this time.
8%?? Can you give me the name of that bank? Or is it only for large fortunes?
@ Bernard
you're so right about not receiving the whole 8%, but that however does not makes the gesture of the account manager less romantic.
It just shows exactly what the savers need in this time, something that seems to be a helping hand, however is just as meaningless as all the other financial products that caused the system to collapse.
Still i think Arnon made the right decission, 5,26% remains an exeptional interestrate this time. It is just not what it seems to be, which is where they bankers self should take blame, not in the first the central bankers, they are the ones setting these interest rates, they are killing the system from the inside, however keep smiling since they fool us all.
It is just like when you wake up and go to the bathroom to brush your teeth, you put a bit of toothpaste on your brush, and while you push the toothpaste through the hole, a tiny little bubble pops out of the hole, it seems great! However a few seconds later this same nice little bubble is being destroyed by the toothpaste you're pushing out of the tube. Which is exactly what i mean, all the good, all the pretty things, they are dying from the inside....

I guess Arnon get's the whole 8%, as he is a writer and Ireland has a zero tax program for writers and other artists (Mieke!!). 18 months is a long time....and Kroes want's the Irish banks to change their limitless guarantees.
Jeanette
Artists in Ireland are nog exempted from every tax, they are just exempt from income tax from the sale of their work. So that rule does not apply on the interest received from a deposit, else every writer that sould 300 copies would become a Irish resident and not paying any taxes!
Besides that, talking about 'one equal Europe' !!?
@Sven
As I do not believe in an impeccable system, nor impeccable leaders, nor impeccable customers, I do not have the impression that I was fooled. Financially, I play on the safe side, but it remains a risky play nevertheless. (I wonder if Zizek will ever find the very weak spot in the system, maybe it is mankind itself).
And luckily, the nasty disturbing things can die from the inside too.

You're right, I made a wrong guess.
Maybe that explains why Arnon stayed in for dinner and had potatoes....
