Fully booked
Too late
According to my schedule I was supposed to spend the night at the Mercure Park Hotel in Krefeld.
The woman at the front desk told me: “We expected you yesterday, Mr. Grunberg. You are too late. Now we are fully booked. I’m sorry.”
She wasn’t sorry at all, but thanks to the Diogenes sales rep I got a room in Villa Medici in Krefeld.
This bed deserves an 8. If only for the tulips.

This one looks quite familiar, nevertheless romantic.
Don't know what it is, but i feel a little strange with all the pictures i have seen in the past days, all those beds, all those plaids and the shiny wood.
Why don't you go to a more classy hotel?
David
I think this is a very classy hotel. It looks like the german Fawlty Towers.

Yes, you are right, i pressed the link, but this room doesn't look so nice as the rooms on the website.
I'm looking for someone who can translate old german handwritings, if you are that person, please mail me:

Soon you will be able to bundle your comments to a hotel guide ... It's another number to smile and worry about when you are bored... What rate did it get today?
The first time I heard about you was a few years ago, when my father gave my former boyfriend your book as a christmas present. It was "phantom pain" and I thought the title was probably similar with my fathers feelings about that relationship.
Anyway, thank you for the reading, I enjoyed you saying "Fäustchen". :)
I hope you will enjoy hotel Odessa better than this one. We shall see. See you later!

As you can read this one gets an 8. But I have a strange feeling that it might be turned into a 9.

Is it possible to change the lettertype for comments back to what it was?
Or is this temporary? I liked the way it used to look. Maybe I should look for new joys in life.

How odd! You and tulipes. Are you discovering- and starting to like - your dutch roots.
Sander
Misschien kun je die functie herstellen dat als éénmaal het commentaar verzonden is, het venster verdwijnt. Nu twijfelen we of de boodschap wel doorgestuurd wordt.
Mieke
I have changed the way the comment box closes. I hope this is better.
Let me know if anything else behaves odd.

Great work! Finally the site is searchable and all the deeplinks work. Two small suggestions: (1) the typography of the main blog entry looks a bit weird. Less elegant than the Flash version. Perhaps you can experiment a bit. (2) Can you add a 'add comment' button below the most recent comment? Now, one has to scroll back to the end of the post.

How did the job interview go?
New website
Sander, the new site does not work under firefox (v.3.0.4, Win XP 32 bit).
Sandy
Remove some old cookies. That should solve your problem.

Can you tell me what is not working? You can't even open the first page? Or are there specific problems? Please let me know on
sander@arnongrunberg.comAnd that goes for everybody else too.

I'll add a [ Add Comment ] button below the posts. That is better indeed.
About the fonts. It's true that that was better in Flash. In Flash it was possible to embed fonts so we had total control over the typography. The one big advantage of Flash.
In HTML we need to depend on the fonts available on the computer of the visitor. Except for Safari, which can download embedded fonts. So if you want to have the old look and feel back, please use Safari. Or install the Myriad Pro or Myriad fonts on your system.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it did not work for me. I believe Sander is working on it and for the time being I'll just use Internet Explorer, which works fine.
Sandy
I do this publicly, so everybody else that might have problems know what is going on.
From the screenshots you sent me I am sure that the Flash version was still in the cache of your browser. Simple reload the site with 'shift' down will probably resolve all your problems.

You are welcome.
"Faüstchen" - "Nachtschränkchen" -- I have to train on these words a bit more.
How is your father by the way?
Sander
I understand that within Flash it is easier to control fonts. But in HTML you can still make the text look and read better than it does currently. Even with the standard fonts that everyone have on their machine, you achieve quite a nice result. Just a thought: use Verdana, don't fully justify the text and create a bit more line spacing. See here for example:

There are alternatives that work just as well.

Are you travelling to Odessa as well?
Looking forward to seeing you there.

The jobinterview was quite strange. An older man and his wife rang my bell, they had driven 150 km just to "talk" to me. I was very friendly, warm and inviting. I madde quite a good first impression I imagine. Then the man started talking for one hour and a half. As it appeared he was no businessenterpreneur but someone who was involved with "multi level sales". A kind of pyramid-selling. Once this was clear, my interest dropped like shotglass.
I pointed at the clock a few times, supressed some yawns and showed him the door. He said: "I didn't drive 150 km for nothing! One has to buy something at least!" and I said "well, yes, you 've got my address, mail me the brochure."
I hope never to hear from him again.

I finally got the newletter from Atlas. Congratulations on your novel. How is he going?
