Ready
Invention
It seems that I’m ready to go to Iraq. I wonder why the duffel bag has been invented.

A new adventure. Good luck!
Duffel
Duffel is a town in Belgium that is famous for the thick cloth they make and that is used for those bags and coats.

That's all fine, but it is not an answer to my question.

So the duffel bag was invented in order for the Belgian town of Duffel to have a purpose in life?
In case of overpacking, I believe duffel bags are invented to hurt your spine. At the same time they are very convenient. I don't see another body part where I can put such an ammount of luggage on. Good luck on your trip.
i'd never heard of duffel bags; you learn something new everyday. Duffel bags.

I realised that. But still, I think it's a nice triviality to know. And maybe you can inform there why they invented the bag.
I guess one of the reasons the duffel continues to exist is that it is convenient to throw around. Ideal for military purposes, quickly packing and unpacking planes and trucks. Imagine being hit on the head by a wheeled suitcase.
Anyway, have a good trip. I have confidence you'll make it back and will send my invoice after your return...

As you might have noticed during your time working for Elvetino, the Swiss army does not have duffel bags, but backpacks. The duffel-like bags they have have extendible handles and wheels (the older ones had a nice little cart). But maybe that's why the Swiss army hardly ever operates and exists mostly for 20-40 year-old Swiss men to have a well-earned yearly break from their families.
The duffel bag was invented because there are not always tools at hand to chop up things that need to be transported.
Arnon,
Wondering is the best emotional state
to go to Iraq.
Good luck.
@ Arnon
The bag looks like a human torso, is there a shirt over it (because it is black)?
Good luck!
That's easy. A cillinder is the most ergonomic shape we have in the world other than a circle. For stocking a circle is a waste because it leaves too much space untouched. A cillinder is a marvel.
If you look at canned food, it's always in a cillindirious shape (apart from sardines)

What exactly would you store in a circle? (A circle is not a sphere.)
Good point Mr. Wilde, also, that's a strange usage of the term "ergonomic".
I meant sphere, of course.
Easy...
To entice the Americans to invade Iraq!
I would direct you to my Belgian-born USArmy officer friend over there but he's back in NYC.
Good luck!

Life itself is not very ergonomic.
