Self-regulation

Colloquium

This afternoon I sat in on a colloquium at the department of economics at NYU on “self-regulation in adult film-industry”. (You can download the paper here.) It was a highly enjoyable afternoon.

And informative too, it seems: “Finally, this analysis opens the path to future research on the emergence and function of self-policing rules that facilitate widespread coordination in other legal segments of the adult film industry or other sex-related industries, such as prostitution and escort services.”
Although to many politicians do not like to be bothered with facts.
Self-regulation as a Common Sense, now written in a Common Bible for Porn.
Do not quote?
What's this statement at the beginning of the article? "Please do not quote without permission."

This is the first time I've ever seen that in an academic paper, though i'm admittedly not reading a lot of papers these days.

If I were writing in that field, I'd be happy to NOT quote that paper. It would serve the author right to miss out on an attribution or two.

It is common practice to ask readers of a paper that is under review not to cite the manuscript without permission.

In which field exactly? Not in mine at any rate (but I'm not in the porno field).

As far as I know, in all academic fields. Most manuscripts are revised before they are published.
