Solitude

Sinners

One of the best movies of the early years of this century was “Le conseguenze dell’amore” by Paolo Sorrentino.
Last night I saw Sorrentino’s movie “Il Divo”, about the Italian politician Giulio Andreotti. “Il Divo” is as good as “Le conseguenze dell’amore”.
Sorrentino portrays Mr. Andreotti as a politician who becomes a perpetrator to save his country; at least that’s what he believes.
Power doesn’t seem to interest Mr. Andreotti.
He is a man who has taken upon himself a divine task, a man who declares that we are all moderate sinners, and he is probably right.
Like “Il conseguenze dell’amore” “Il Divo” is a superb study on solitude.

(I did not knew nor saw one of those films, a pity)
But I saw this one
Philippe Garrel - Les Hautes Solitudes (1974)

A superb study on solitude indeed. Where la consequenze was a portrait of a man stuck in a block of concrete, Il Divo was about a man in the eye of a cyclone.

I wrote an essay on "Le conseguenze" in NRC Handelsblad, published in the summer of 2005.
Bernard
I can send you the essay if you like.
@Arnon
Unfortunately NRC is very hard to get in Bruges.

@Vera M
Thanks, that would please me very much. (I have noticed, the movie is also available in the FNAC -now also in Bruges – I will buy it too)
Guilio - Giulio Andreotti.

You are right, a typo, I corrected it. Thanks!
