Rolling Rock

San Francisco

After I moved to New York in 1995 I frequented a bar named San Francisco on 6th Avenue between 14th and 15th. (The bar went out of business a couple of years ago.)
I did things there that I don’t do anymore. I drank beer (Rolling Rock), I played pinball and I threw money in the jukebox.
Once I entered a strip club on 6th Avenue and I ran into the female bartender of San Francisco. She greeted me as if we were best friends.
One of the songs I often listened to while playing pinball was “Billie Jean”. I thought that listening to “Billie Jean” would enhance my pinball skills.
It took me a while to grasp the exact meaning of the song.

Nobody can escape Michael Jackson these days. Or is it the other way around?
Victor
I have a weak spot for certain underdogs, even after their death.
Although I know the song begs to differ I keep singing it as "Billy Jean is not my daughter, she's just a girl who thinks that I am the one".
Aaah, Billy Jean. Michael Jackson is a great deadman. I remeber when I was 13 I did a presentation for Dutch classes. We had to do an intro for the radio I chose a MJ-song about which I talked endlessly. I can't remember which one it was.
MJ
When I was young, i wanted to be Michael Jackson. Now I want to be Arnon Grunberg. I wonder whether that's progression or deterioration. Apart from that, do you consider yourself to be an underdog?
M. Hordijk
I would say , you have an artistic call. Or is it their looks that you find appealing.
m hordijk
of course he doesn't!
arnon
do i get you right?
you regard michael jackson as an underdog?
Pam
Yes.
M Hordijk
I am the eternal underdog. Like Jesus.
haha
Black Or White
I was watching the BBC showing the video clips in chronological order. And saw Michael changing from a Afro-Amarican to a wannabe white man without a nose. Then I the number "Black or White" came a long with the lyrics ending with:
"It Don't Matter If You're / Black Or White"
Not a big fan of his music, I remember I was deeply impressed by the documentary ‘Living with Michael Jackson’. What a sad and lonely person. A broken man or better, a broken child.
An underdog, I agree.
Mieke Dutoit
An artistic call indeed. Though it seems to have shifted from style to matter.
Arnon Grunberg
I wonder, you being an underdog (eternally even), who are the dogs putting you down? Who do you have to fight?
Hordijk
I wrote: "I'm the eternal underdog. Like Jesus."
