Fish

Bistro

As regular readers of this site might know the French bistro Pearl in Dublin offers reasonable food at reasonable prices.
But I’ve been silent about one of the main attractions of Pearl: an aquarium.
Usually I dine at the bar, but when I’m with my godson – as I was last night – I ask for a table near the aquarium.
My godson was completely smitten with the fish and I have to admit: the food at Pearl is good but the aquarium is better.

when I was a child, my father often went to a Chinese restaurant in Berlin (taking me and my brother with him) where they had an aquarium. A few weeks ago, my brother went there with me again -first time since my father's dead. The aquarium was still there. While watching the fish we agreed on our strange feeling: He was always there - like the fish. Now he isn't, but the fish still are. Das Leben geht weiter.

I'm still not recovered from the death of my goldfish, twenty years ago now.

When I was younger than today, my father used to take me to a restaurant where they had live music. I remember we sat near the band once, but after that time we always sat in the other corner of the room. Apparently I was so taken in by the music that I wouldn't listen anymore.

My girlfriend’s goldfish Lily…
I could not (would ) not take care of this lovely fish during her vacation, so she entrusted it to another person. But he was clumsy, and the fish died. I cried, and I can never forgive myself.
