Speech

During the launch of my new novel in a beautiful bookstore in the city of Mechelen Mark Schaevers gave a speech that touched me deeply. The speech was as much about Jean Améry as it was about my new novel.

Is there a record of this speech, somewhere?
I already have a strong desire to buy and read your new novel, Arnon. Thanks !

It was a wonderful and touching speech indeed., really every mile worth to come to Mechelen for. Now I want to know everything about Jean Amery and read Arnons new novel of course. And a great remark Arnon made about identity, preferring a small portable tree to the deeply rooted and unmovable big one. Thanks both of you Arnon and Mark for this marvellous afternoon.
Just read the article about this new novel in the groene amsterdammer. I see some connection with a subtheme of my first novel but i can not grasp it yet...guess i have to read it, it looks interesting too me as well after this review.
Milan: You have to read your first novel??

Bernard, if you happen to find a review or transcript of the speech in any Belgium magazine or newspaper, would you be so kind to send me a copy by mail? Much obliged, J.
Remarkable, a father who honors the wishes of a schoolboy. Touching indeed.
(My mother picked me up from elementary school. It was strongly recommended not to be ashamed about her presence, those days.)

@Jeanette
If I find something, I surely will ! (I remember you, you once send me an article about Amery)

Funny you mention this. Of cource i know what resemblance i see but the review is just a review, to be sure i will have to read arnon's new novel. Although i can already mention the connection as i see it now, it's just that i do not feel this is the right place to elaborate on it, that's all really (but i did send my manuscript to Arnon earlier on, pretty sure it has nothing to do with that though;))

But now that you mention this i can tell you something else: i was surprised to notice a few weeks ago. I can really read my first novel as a reader, like i did not write it myself. Since writing is new to me (this year) it was a total surprice this can be the case. But i guess it has to do what Arnon was saying: the work can be seen on itself after it's finished...seperated from the writer.
Milan, can you also read your comments here, like you did not write them yourself?

Bernard, yes it was me that kept you from sleeping. Now you could return the favor...
interessant. ik ga me eens verdiepen in de virtuele schrijfsels van een van mijn favoriete auteurs. vermoeiend dat het in het engels is. of is dat een statement? Zo van; ik ben groter dan mijn eigen kleine taalgebied....

Johannnes, thank you for adding this link.
I enjoyed listening to the interview.
Amery is still 'lost', nevertheless: thanks again.
@Johannes
Thanks !
