Entitlement

Cab

It wasn’t raining but my cab driver had turned on his windshield wipers and he didn’t turn them off, all the way from Park and 37th till Madison and 77th.
I should have asked him: “Excuse me, but why do you have your windshield wipers turned on?” But I was afraid that this question would have offended him, so I kept silent.
We are all entitled to our own neuroticisms.

We are entitled but many times not allowed. Good of you not to say anything.
Entitled?
Are we? We indulge our neuroticisms. That's something else. The black hole of our private universes. Grow, baby, grow!
Daydream
You should have told him. The driver was daydreaming heavily . Happens to me all the time. Luckily, my passengers alert me. You could have been killed, Arnon. Furthermore his wipers will be ruined quite soon.
Dora Maar, Are you the reincarnation of Henriette Theodora Marković? Or is choosing this name an example of daydreaming?
Arnon
My neuroticism about the sound of rubber scratching over a dry windshield would have lead to a clash over who's neuroticism is bigger. These are the things that lead even pacifists to war. Did the use of your weapon of intellect, to shut yourself up, save you?
Tom, I'm a cat actually. Without a family name. Hence my pseudonym. I'm very neurotic about privacy...
Dora Maar,
I keep silent and do not ask anything.
Or perhaps the on/off button of his wipers got stuck.
In that case HE might have been thinking: 'please don't let the passenger notice anything. Thank god it is this dreamy writer, he probably doesn't notice his surroundings at all.'

Which would prove the 'everyone has his own universe' remark above to be even more true.
I thought the same, Simon.
Cat (?)
Or perhaps this taxi driver was having his own little survey/experiment:
'Let's see how many passengers ask about my wipers.'
Arnon
Are you suggesting that people choose their insanities?

I admit that there might well be some degree of comfort in insanity. Perhaps we all sometimes need some shelter from the harshness of reality.
@ Carlos
There is little relieve in insanity. It hurts immensely.
Pacifists at war
I had the pleasure to make the aquaintance of a lady who could easily beat Paddington Bear when it comes to hard stares. I met her the chemist's just the other day and she chose this way of communication to tell me that the scraps of music seeping out of my earphones didn't agree with her. When I finally noticed her piercing way of looking at me I asked her about it and tried to lure her into a friendly conversation about appropriate and inappropriate. Unfortunately she wasn't really up for it and went off muttering angrily to herself. Somehow she really made me smile and even though I had been quite gloomy when I walked into the chemist's thanks to her I left it with a spring in my step.
Arnon
Maybe you offended him because you didn`t ask!?
Jelena
Maybe.
Weren't you the one who offered me adult services?
