Family reunion

Illegally

Family reunion seems to be a problem everywhere.
Haaretz reports: ‘Israel has refused entry to the Muslim wife of a Jewish immigrant from Iran.
The wife is currently in Turkey but could be sent back to Iran within days, where she is likely to be severely punished.

The immigrant, Puriya Hajaram on Thursday appealed to Haaretz for help in bringing his wife to Israel. "I was told before coming that I would get help here. Otherwise I wouldn't have come alone," he said.
Hajaram, 23, left Iran with his wife, R., for fear of being drafted into the Iranian army. The two crossed the border to Turkey illegally. They went to the Israeli consulate, where they were told that only Hajaram could get an entrance visa to Israel because his family lives here.’

In my opinion the best reason to get married is to give another person a decent passport. Or decent, well, sort of.
Romantic love is so last century.

Schijnhuwelijk
A marriage out of romantic love is a purely western phenomenon of the last century. In other parts of the world and in history people married out of other reasons. An armenian lady once told me that they ,back home ,didn't know what a marrage out of love is.
In that sense you may ask yuorself if the concept 'schijnhuwelijk' is not a false one.
Reading "Ali and Nino", I must agree. Although a novel isn't a book of facts, I tend to believe things in it.
My first time here - what a lovely little blog, with such a lovely small group of steady commenters. ;-)

Thumbs up for the discipline of a daily post, apparently no matter where you are!
Paris, city of love ?
Arnon, M, Dutoit and Dens, you sound like true batchelors to me. Maybe you avoid real love, for being afraid to become dependent on someone else.

I would suggest to read some romatic novels (such as the "bouquet reeks"), and then you will get the proper mood. Personally, I have very good experience with that.
Hartmann
Amita, are you married to Herman Hartmann, who also posts comments here? Just out of curiosity.
Anyway, the most romantic line in pop history has to be by R.E.M. - not that I'm a big fan:
'I count your eye lashes....secretly'
There's an indian saying: We don't marry the woman we love, we love the woman we marry.

Of course, marriage and love are not the same. Not only when passports are concerned.

Being dependent on someone else doesn't have anything to do with that. Neither does the "Bouquet reeks"

And what about this for romantic lines in pop music:

"Everyday she wears the same thing / I think she smokes pot / She's everything I want, She's everything I'm not"
@Hartmann
I was merely stating a scientific fact. In most non-western cultures marriages are still arranged.
The Armanian lady I mentioned was kidnapped and forced into a marriage at the age of sixteen. Her daughter had an arranged marriage at the age of seventeen. She is now living the live of an illegal in Belgium and supports her entire family .
She's my real heroïne with a story never being told in a Bouquet novel. She is now forty and never experienced 'falling in love'.
And Anita: Is Herman Hartman a sailor who saved a woman's life out at sea?

Tjitze, check out the song 'Back of My Hand'. It was originally by the Jags, but this is a really nice cover.

For lyrics see: http://www.lyricsdownload.com/jags-back-of-my-hand-lyrics.html

Especially the line: 'I only wish you knew that.'
'I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold" (Neil Young). Herman not only gave me romance, but a descent passport as well. Quite a good deal isn't it.

By the way "For romance you have to be with the bouquet series" ("Voor romantiek moet je bij bouquetreeks zijn") is a quote from Arnon.
as I worked with refugees for many years I have seen these type of cases many times. It seems that not only romantic love is so last century but unfortunately also have a sense of decency and humanity.
I once knew romantic love. But I seemed to be the only one.
A few hours of love and lust from time to time are a true delight, illegal or not. No more, no less. Today, I wear her kiss marks, the scars of love, with pride. Is this bouquet reeks? Reeds!

I can only find the original Jags version, not the cover. I like it, thanks for the tip.

I did not know the Jags. The Jags version of the song you mention has an Elvis Costello feel to it, which is always good.

Speaking about romantic pop music, I can recommend all Elvis Costello tunes.

In addition check out "Black Books" by Nils Lofgren.

There is nothing more romantic than love that is no love anymore.

Should I start reading bouquet reeks books?
Back of My Hand
Tjitze, use the link (above) to The Methadones. The player features the cover.
Yes, Elvis Costello is very cool. I will check out Nils Lofgren, thanks!
