My fixer
The first 24 hours
My first 24 hours in Lebanon.
Yesterday the hotel offered me a meal to make up for the mistake by my travel agent. (She sent me to the wrong airport in New York.)
The food was abundant, and this is an understatement, I felt ashamed that I could not finish the food and therefore drank too much wine.
The nightmares I had my first night here were abundant as well.
Today I met my guide who took me to the Shi’ite neighborhood, which was bombed last summer.
Also I met my fixer.
A fixer for those of you who don’t know is a person who arranges contacts.
Have I got a charming fixer.
And also I’d like to point out that war is expected here.

War
When you mean "war is expected here", do you mean that people expect something to happen, based on poilitical developments, or do you mean that people always expect war and maybe have accepted this as a fact of life ?.
Please enlighten us.
War
You mean simply another war in Lebanon or a war against Iran first and then again in Lebanon and so on. What do people think?
War has already begun.
War
Arnon, thanks for the answer.
Dens. maybe you are right and we are in a stage of war since a couple of years (worldWar III) ? It seams like a social version of the "law of maximum entropy". After the decline of the USSR, al kinds of small and larger conflicts started. A numer of local leaders saw an opportunity to get more power. Bin Laden, Hugo Chavez, Ahmadinejad, Milosevic and so forth. They use religion, imperialism, socialism or whatever as an excuse. `Ìt is only about power`George Orwell, 1984
Be careful.

War is not always expected. War is still the exception. Even in Lebanon. And the opinions are divided in Beirut. Some people think war is ccoming soon, others do think that war is not coming soon.
