The worst

A list

My favorite publisher Diogenes Verlag has come up with an excellent idea.
The worst seller list.

In 2005 the worst seller at Diogenes was a book by Frank O’Connor: 3 copies sold.
Number 2: George Orwell, 8 copies sold.
Number 3: Nathanael West, 13 copies sold.
Number 5 William Faulkner, 36 copies sold.
(Diogenes won't allow living authors to be on their worst seller list.)
To be fair I’ll publish my own worst seller list.
See below:

Unfortunately this Grunberg-worst seller list of the first quarter of 2007 is based on the royalty statement of only one of my Dutch publishers.

1) Grunberg Around the World
- 437
2) Grunberg-bible
- 127 3) The Technique of Suffering
- 6

Please do not blame me, I own a copy of those three books.
I am afraid I'm not very good at statistics: they usually raise more questions than they answer. E.g. how can the number 3 in the Diogenes list have sold less copies than the number 2? Is the number 4 author still alive?

As to Mr. Grunbergs list: After the liberal hightide we had in the recent past in the Netherlands, the protestants have taken over power. They are usually much more in favour of suffering than liberals. Suffering will be hot in the near future. Everybody will want to improver their technique of suffering. The book will rise to the top of the bestseller list soon!
There's something so true to what Ron 's saying. I myself predict the sudden outburst of films and books about choir-boys or priests who find themselves in conflict between "sin or pleasure". And the conflict is presented without irony, Please please please Arnon, write a blasphemous book. One that will be banned by Christians.

I also own "Grunberg around the world" and I had a lot of fun reading it while on holiday ! Any book that can make me smile is definitely worth buying.
Diogenes, if I'm not mistaken, was the man who said to Alexander the Great "please go out of my sun" and was (therefore) the first real cynic, I'm not surprised these authors are on that list, with that publisher.

I only own a copy of Grunberg around the world, but I've been thinking a lot about buying the Grunberg Bible, probably I'll buy it after I've read enough about other religions.

I made a mistake, number three on the list of Diogenes, Nathanael West, 13 copies sold.
I'll correct it now.
I usually don't dream of people I know, nor known people. This night I dreamed of Mr. Arnon. We were on a ski-piste, and he was talking to my mother. Then I noticed his reproductive thing was hanging out of his pants, Mr. Arnon must have seen me look, because he apologized to my mother and put his thing back. I was ashamed for discovering.

Maybe I should stop coming to this blog, or stop reading Gstaad.
…and for mathematical correctness the Grunberg-worst seller list should be reversed, number one to be The suffering (never underestimate the pleasure of ant f*cking).
