A trip to Brooklyn
Meeting people
On this not very warm Sunday my friend who works at the reception desk (as he said: "I'm not the front desk manager, just an agent.") of the Kitano Hotel, where I have breakfast almost every morning, suggested I take my godson and his mother to the botanical gardens in Brooklyn. So my godson could meet with his son.
The botanical gardens were packed for reasons unknown to me.
Yet the two children appreciated each other’s company.
Also I noted that the botanical gardens are a terrific place to meet people. Not that I want to meet people, but when the day comes that I have changed my mind I’ll go to the botanical gardens.

You're lucky you're not in Amsterdam at present. I've never fully understood the concept of being sandwiched between beer-drinking fellow humans without engaging in any conversation with the person whose ass you're rubbing up against. Repulsive day it is, Queen's day.
Den Bosch
Today my girlfriend (wife) and I went in Den Bosch, to see the queen ("Takes him out to look at the queen, only place that he's ever been", the Beatles), acting like real tourists. We were quite late, and Amita, being quite small, only saw the "back of Alexanders"head. Indeed we were squeezed between many many people. The Chocolate Cake (Bosche Bol) tasted quite nice and was the highlight of the day.
Anyhow, celebration of Queens day in the U.S. seams to be quite funny. A friend of ours, not even Dutch himselve, told us that he went to the Dutch consulate and joined the crowd in singing "Piet Hein".
I don't know what to think of these events. As Dutch we are not that "proud" of our own country. and don't have very nationalistic feelings. I think this is good, but we might be missing something. I'd love to know what other people's opinion is on this.
Today I had a wonderful time with a girlfriend. On days like that I feel like I do belong to something bigger than myself and a small family is big enough for me.
i was lucky
i wasn't lucky, i chose to be somewhere else.
adaptation
Reading this reminds me of a movie i saw in which Orchids are important.. It's called Adaption.

Your godson looks so marvellous. More beautiful than the little angels of Rafaël. Perfect eyebrows and eyelashes, beautiful contrast between dark hair and skin. He looks clever as well, concentrated as he is on what he's doing (drawing, playing, eating?) .
When I look at him, I would like to talk to him and play with him.
I also loved the photo at the seaside, with him and the dogs ...
Days to remember. Perfect days indeed.
