Thank you!

Thank you all for coming

Last night went to Barnes & Noble on 6th Avenue to hear a reading of the wife of my friend Blake: Constanza Jaramillo-Cathcart.
She read a story from the anthology Fifteen Candles. It was long ago that I went to a reading without have to read myself and I enjoyed the reading and Constanza’s story.
I was once again slightly surprised that the authors who were reading last night thanked the audience in an almost theatrical way. Speaking about cultural differences – this is for me very American.
And there is good reason to be American when it comes to be grateful for people willing to listen to you or at least willing to feign that they are listening to you.
The editor of Fifteen Candles went so far as to tell the audience: “Thank you for supporting the book.”

Well, maybe selling books has become something like fighting malaria.
So thank you for visiting this site on this hot summer day.
Thank you for supporting my work.
Thank you for buying my books, if you haven’t bought my books yet please do so in the near future. I’m willing to sign my books, and I’m willing to sign other items as well.
Thank you for your comments, thanking you for making this all possible. There is the Global War on Terror, but there is also a thing called Global Fight for Selling More of My Books.
Thank you all for joining this fight.

You're welcome
Thank could just about have been a scene in Annie Hall.
who's eating two candles?
Thank you for writing.
does this mean that we don't have to write intelligent comments (all the time)?
I think I can speak for all of us if I say: thank you for reading our comments.

And have a nice weekend.

People don't wish eachother a nice weekend often enough.

Ik vind Arnon ook heel leuk, vooral als hij boos is.

I also think that Arnon is a droll fellow, expecially when he is angry.
thank you
When you repeat the message so much the strength of the meaning of it declines I would say. You can even start to think it is insincere and displays phoniness.

Does it matter? The question is as this example shows whether you say “thank you” or you don’t. I chose to say “thank you.” Now you want sincerity on top of it, you ask for too much. And why doubt the sincerity of “thank you” and why don’t doubt the sincerity of “fuck you”?
Arnon, you have conviced me : Thank you
This is the second time for me to thank you
I thanked you for your writings once when you were at Athena's in Groningen.
I was sincere then, and I am sincere right now. Thank you
Yoram
You are so easy to be convinced. I wanted to support you but now I see I am on my own. Thank you means completely nothing when it’s not sincere. Not for the ones who say it nor for the receiver. We tend to doubt the ‘Thank you’s’ since they are often doubtable. Eventually they will not attain their goal. Fuck you on the other hand will always be sincere. Since we risk something by saying that and since it will always show that we are touched and most probably hurt.
Sincere
How do you know people are sincere or not?
I think you underestimate the value of formula's and politeness.
In the place I live I see a lot of people for whom 'fuck you' means nothing at all.

If you are trying to convince me that you are boorish you convinced me. Thank you for being a boorish person.
Oh sorry. I didn’t know that this blog is actually all about you and the purpose of the comments were to convince you of something.
Again a new word: Boorish. Thanks Mr. Arnon.
Dens,
Once again you make me proud!
