Warning shot
Let's go for a walk
On my first day in Tarin Kowt I went on a foot patrol to the actual city of Tarin Kowt. City is too big of a word.
A few warning shots were fired.
Anyhow warning shot or no warning shot it was good to leave the camp.

It is not clear to me: are the warning shots fired by your patrol comrades or by the others side?
Nevertheless, from my viewpoint Google Earth, the place looks like a real desertshore.

"We" fired warning shots.
Thanks. I remember now from Korean veterans that they sometimes made a lot of noise when on patrol, to warn the other side and avoid some unexpected and nasty meetings…
good to leave the camp
why?

To see what's out there. I'm not here to have a total experience of war.
Jan T., the Taliban are not known for firing warning shots. FYI.
experience of war
I would expect to find the experience of war outside the camp but I do not know that much about the area. I hope you’re finding enough ‘out there’.
@Arnon
I do not doubt about the Taliban not giving warning shots. Frankly, I doubt if I would survive more than a day alone outside the camp.

A complete idea of war is of course not possible, maybe you have to get wounded or die to get this complete experience, but I'm striving to see more than just the camp.
idea of war
I would argue there is not ONE (and only) idea of war so a ‘complete’ idea of it is also impossible. Having lived the first twenty one years of my life in a land which was (is) at war or under the threat of war, I can assure you this experience is subjective and influenced by your state of mind at a given moment. You don’t have to die or get wounded for this all to be ultimate- so please, be careful.

What's ACM?
the taliban
ACM
Why should anyone call the Taliban ACM? Can they not simply be referred to as ‘Charlie’, like in the good old days? Or following the NATO alphabet, maybe we should call them ‘The Tango’s’ or even ‘The Tanga’s’?

What does ACM stand for?
ACM
@Ed
Please enlighten us. Or should we stick to ‘Armed Collateral Muslims’?
