My last day in TK
Last night I gave a talk in a briefing room about my booklet “Among the soldiers”, which I wrote last summer after my stay at Kandahar Airfield.
About fifty troops showed up. The atmosphere was pleasant, the questions better than at your average literary evening.
Today I’m leaving for Kabul, or Kandahar you never know.

Give my greetings to the troops who kept you safe. (as we, who read the book, all know, the real ‘heart of darkness’ is located in an ordinary office somewhere in our own country).

of course their questions were better than the literary ones, because the soldiers are directly involved, in a way more than you are yourself...what questions to ask about your books after reading them?? why do you still attend those evenings the one after the other? useless, i think...
