No deal

Deal

More Brexit - William Davies in LRB:

"For the time being, Britain appears to be heading towards one of two negatives: ‘no deal’ or ‘no Brexit’. The inability to convert Brexit into an agreed set of tolerable policies tells us something crucial about what sort of thing Brexit is: an ideal of withdrawal that is at odds with basic realities of government and politics. If ‘Remain’ is to have the last laugh in all of this, its best bet may be to make a pitch for the double-negative: saying ‘no’ to the 2016 referendum, the Conservative politicians who made it happen, and the financial interests that supported them. The figure best placed to do that, whatever his personal position, is the one with the greatest reserves of voice just now, the leader of the Labour Party."

Whatever his personal position? His personal position and his political position rather overlap, and given his lukewarm support for No Brexit he is an awkward figure to lead the march back to spring 2016, when we all, well most of us thought, that the referendum would be nothing but a hiccup, after which it would be business as usual.

Another option is the continuation of talks between Britain and the E.U about a Brexit for the coming years. The show is rather successful, so why not continue it?
