The weak

Don't fight

One of the highlights of my visit to Israel was a long conversation I had this morning with the military historian Martin van Creveld in his house outside Jerusalem.
“If you fight the weak,” Martin van Creveld said, “you become weak yourself.” He added that this is what is happening in Iraq, in Afghanistan and to a certain degree also in Israel.

Nuclear threats
Mr. Van Crefeld says that: "Iran is the real victor in Iraq, and the world must now learn to live with a nuclear Iran the way we learned to live with a nuclear Soviet Union and a nuclear China. We Israelis have what it takes to deter an Iranian attack. We are in no danger at all of having an Iranian nuclear weapon dropped on us.... thanks to the Iranian threat, we are getting weapons from the U.S. and Germany."

I think that as long as nucelar weapons are in control of a nation the world is relatively safe. There will be a balance as there was during the cold war. A nation will not use their nucelar power very quickly because they will have to face the consequences of possible nuclear destruction themselves.
The real threat lies in the possibility that nucelar weapons fall into the hands of terrorists. Terrorists belong to no country so when they use their power where do you strike them with a nuclear bomb?
All actions that destablize nations which have nucelar weapons are dangerous too. Because when such a nation becomes instable there is more change that their nucelar knowledge is not under control anymore and fall into terrorists hands. This is a scenario which can happen when the VS attacks Iran.
@Arnon
I hope Martin van Creveld told you a lot more.

@Richard
I agree, but I also think terrorists are nowhere without outside support from a nation or a big company.
forgive me the weird comparison, but i think it is like it is in football: if you play a bad team, you become much worse yourself.
Ivo ,
Isn't it that you can improve the team? But when you have to fight or conquer a weak team you cannot go for it with full passion. Fighting with a child doesn't make the adult stronger, it makes him rediculous. If you want to win from a weaker person it gives you no fullfillness because there is no equal challenge.
@Helen Priso
And yet we do not consider child molesters to be ridiculous. Although sometimes I think it would hurt them more if we call them ridiculous in stead of a monstrosity, a quality that only pleases or honours them. But this is too far fetched I am afraid.
Jan
I consider child abusers as weak and immature persons
