Earthquake

Small miracle

Early Sunday morning a terrible noise came out of the bedroom. I was just trying to work on my novel. For a split of a second I thought of an earthquake.
Upon closer inspection it turned out that my godson had managed to knock over a cupboard. He was lying half under the cupboard, half under the bed.
How he had managed to knock over the cupboard is still a small miracle.
Both cupboard and godson have been rescued with only minor injuries.
Sometimes I wonder if I should have children myself. Rescuing cupboards and children and working on a novel are hardly compatible.
And insiders have told me that a live-in maid is not the solution.

I imagine he tried to climb the shelves to reach out for some dishes. At least that is what I should have done as a child.
But then, maybe I remember my childhood all too well. As a toddler I was already convinced: childhood? Never again! Please.
If you have different memories or great expectations, I will not stop you from having a baby. Feel free to procreate. I am looking forward to read your new novel.
they climb in the cupboards, or try to make the tv roll over... at least that is what mine does. Cupboards are fixed to the walls and i am still thinking of a solution for the tv. Strange enough most kids seem to manage time after time. After all, they have the right to fall.

I thought you didn't want to have children because you would feel responsible for their suffering.

The cupboard in the picture is not my cupboard.
Arnon, if you like, I can share my experiences with you on this topic (writing and kids) in order to help you decide.
The crucial question is whether you consider life a gift that should be past on to someone else or not. If not don't even think about having children.
@Arnon
Thanks for the information. (I could hardly imagine you had that kind of cupboard in your apartment.)
@Arnon
I just interviewed a writer last Sunday with a 3 yr old and twins of 4 months, he has a little wooden barn in the back of the garden to write. For myself, I have a cupboard in which I lock them when I am writing, works like a charm ;-).

Cheers

Half under the bed. That's odd. Maybe he made a deadride between the cupboard and the bed, causing the cupboard to fall as he did.

I'd have kids if you've fulfilled all your own dreams. Not a minute sooner.

I couldn't agree more.
@Natasza, it seems you've found the right method (even though I'm sure you're joking about the cupboard) - how do you do it, honestly, or perhaps a more important question: how old are your children? I find hardly any woman is ever honest about what they really think and feel on such issues, I noticed this already during pregnancy.
@Noa
Noa, not sure you will read this, I am traveling and have little time to read on the internet. Tonight however I am in my hotelroom and trying to read back in time ;-). How do I do it? Well I just do I guess. My kids are now 7 and 13 yrs old and I have always worked more than fulltime, traveling all of Europe. It requires organisation skills, relativism, humour and lots of energy. It helps I only sleep 2 to 3 hours a night ;-). Yes the cupboard is a joke, although by times I wish... :-)
