Sometimes
Decadence
On my day off I had lunch with a young man who is an editor for the magazine of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
We discussed a piece I wrote for the magazine, the advantages and disadvantages of having children, and decadence that is the result of too much security.
The pasta was good. We both drank mineral water, which brought back pleasant memories of New York where the business lunch is not to be accompanied by alcohol, give or take a lunch or two.
He also wanted to know if I was happy in Iraq.
I answered: “According to a good friend of mine who read the emails I sent her from Iraq the answer is: no. But I prefer to believe: sometimes.”

Do you feel that you have to write in a perticular way for this blog, or do you write how you want it? In other words: Have we, the readers, altered your writing?
Decadence
Mr. Grunberg,
Was 'decadence' just one of the topics you discussed with the editor, or is it the subject of the article you mentioned? If so, has the article appeared yet? I would be interested to learn your thoughts on it, more specifically, whether you believe it is necessarily a bad thing.
@Arnon
Please elaborate - what do you consider the advantages and disadvantages of having children?

The subject of my piece is Iraq and no I don't think that decadence is necessarily something negative.

As I said in an earlier entry I try to be careful on this place what to write and what not to write. For various reasons more careful than when I write my pieces for let’s say NRC Handelsblad. Do you have the feeling that the readers changed the content of these entries?
Lately I've been thinking this, yes. I feel that it's more adapt to us, the commenters, than it was before, but maybe I'm altering myself. We sould do an investigation if we have the time.

I'm sometimes careful not to hurt feelings of other people, but please be aware: with "other people" I don't mean people commenting on this site.
I do understand.
