My mother and my companion

The last time I was in Gstaad was in the summer of 2001. Back then I was doing research for a novel (“Gstaad 95-98”) and I was traveling with my friend Elayne. A few months later she would become my fiancée.
In 2001 the guests at Gstaad Palace hotel were confused if Elayne was my mother or my mistress.
Elayne passed away in the summer of 2005.
Seven years after my last visit I returned to Gstaad and the Palace Hotel.
I’m afraid nobody will mistake my current companion for my mother.

Confusion
Did you mean to write "I’m afraid nobody will take my current companion for my mistress." instead of "I’m afraid nobody will take my current companion for my mother."
Phil
The latter.
The difference between a lover and a mistress is quite vague to me.
Did you mean "my mother or my mistress"?
in stead of "my lover or my mistress" I mean.
Ron
I wrote "my mother" -- so I meant "my mother." And I know the difference between my mother and my mistress. At least I believe I do.
Arnon, I don't mean to irritate, but your entry reads: "In 2001 the guests at Gstaad Palace hotel were confused if Elayne was my lover or my mistress."
Ron
Yes, I see. Excuse me -- my error. I'll correct it.

PS Interesting Freudian slip...
A few ladies have shown interest in my the past year(s), but I'm not so daring that I'd take them as my mistress. Not even the young ones.
Freudian slip
No shame, no blame. The mother will remain our most terrible and necessary lover anyway (next to The Lord, of course).
