Call
‘Paul Krugman, a professor at Princeton and an Op-Ed page columnist for The New York Times, was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science on Monday.
The prize committee cited Mr. Krugman for his “analysis of trade patterns and location of economic activity.”
Mr. Krugman, 55, is probably more widely known for his Op-Ed columns in which he has been a perpetual thorn in President Bush’s (and now John McCain’s) side. His columns have won him both strong supporters and ardent critics.
The prize, however, was awarded for the academic — and less political — research that he conducted primarily before he began writing regularly for The Times.
“To be absolutely, totally honest, I thought this day might come some day, but I was absolutely convinced it wasn’t going to be this day,” Mr. Krugman said in an interview on Monday. “I know people who live their lives waiting for this call, and it’s not good for the soul. So I put it out of my mind and stopped thinking about it,”’ writes Catherine Rampell in the NY Times.
I like Mr. Krugman’s Op-Ed columns a lot and I enjoyed his comment in Catherine Rampell’s article as well. It is not good for your soul to wait for the Nobel Prize.

That's exactly what I do. I have put the thought of winning the noble price out of my head. I don't think about it and just continue my every day routine.
One day, someone on this blog, will win a Noble Prize, that I am sure of.
The noble price you might win. The Noble prize is less likely ;-). Anyway, if you've come to the point where you have to put winning the Nobel prize out of your mind to save your soul from damage, you've either gone mad or come a long way.
Noble Prize
How good Arnon's work might be, still I don't think he will win the Noble Prize. If he does, well that would be a nice surprise.
Well, usually Nobel prize winners are closer to death than McCain. Let's wait for a couple of decades and see what happens before claiming Arnon won't win one.
Nobel or Die Trying
I would like the literature prize for my first book and the peace prize for my second. The prize in medicine I would like for a music video I direct for The Sparks. I should get the prize in physics for my work with the underaged. The chemistry prize is bullshit. I have a good chance of getting the prize in economics for a Ponzi scheme I may someday run on behalf of the North Korean government.
But Krugman is right (as usual), it's best not to think too much about it.
I'm going for Man Booker Prize first.
And might I add: "yes, we can." (not country first).
Dear Noa,
Given some of the previous winners I doubt if **thats** such a honor.

Grunberg Prize
Arnon,
who would you give the first "Grunberg prize" to, and why?
The first Grunberg prize was awarded last year. We the winners are still waiting for our price. First Arnon promised us a cheese fondue at Montreux, wich was postponed. Now we are still waiting for the small diner that will replace that.
If one wins a price by Arnon, one has to be very patient.

Is it good for your soul to wait for this prize?
I thought that a cheesfondue would somehow be part of the secret reading.....
Jeanette
It was devestating for my soul to have to wait that long. Was, because today there came an end to my suffering. The diner will take place in the immediate future. I'm not sure yet that my opinion of Arnon hasn't altered because of the waiting.
Mieke
Somehow the waiting has to be compensated,
but if the cheese fondue at Montreux is already replaced by a small dinner (I guess in the Netherlands or Belgium), my next guess is you might end up waiting a little longer and will be eating a "FEBO-kroket" in front of a trainstation together....
(Luckily I'm bad in guessing...)
Jeanette
Well, I am always in for a new experience. I've never tasted a 'broodje kroket' before. So, that would do for me.
Besides I think there is a romantic ring to it, I love railwaystations.
Arnon,
you see, having a mistress wouldn't cost that much,
I think Mieke would not even object sharing one 'broodje kroket'.
If you want to make her happy.....
Mieke,
Do you think you could eat at all in that situation?
Jeanette
Maybe in my dreams, but, alas, Arnon is not interested in me as his mistress, not in real life anyway. Therefore I refuse to let it spoil my appetite.
