Tonight I saw the play Danton’s Death by Georg Büchner directed by Johan Simons. (For the second time this week) The audience was enthusiastic and so was I.
This line from the play, spoken by Marion, is especially worth remembering: “Wer am meisten genießt, betet am meisten.”
Meaning that those who relish will pray a lot to repent their sins? Or did Büchner say that the ecstasy of relish is a prayer? I like the last explanation the best. Enjoyment brings us closer to God.
