Last night I went back to Sant Ambroeus, for the first time since this spring, and for the first time with my son.
A waiter said: 'I've never seen you here before, but they told me you used to be a regular. May I ask you, what kind of professor are you?'
'I'm not a professor,' I answered, 'I just happen to read books in restaurants, most of the time. All I am is a novelist.'
'In that case,' the waiter, 'I will just call you Sir.'
I said: 'That's fine as well.'
