Departure

Discomfort

On the 135th – Harel in Haaretz:

‘134 Israeli hostages are still being held hostage in the Gaza Strip. The 135th is being kept at the PM's residence on Balfour Street. He seems to be paralyzed in fear by his extremist partners.’

(…)

‘All this is happening while the hostages are running out of time and there is growing discomfort among War Cabinet ministers from the National Unity Party. It seems that – if seen against the backdrop of the Al-Aqsa affair and the hostage deal impasse – what happened on Sunday marks the beginning of the countdown to Gantz and Eisenkot's departure from Netanyahu's government.’

So, the unity government will come to an end. Probably Netanyahu will survive without Gantz and Eisenkot for the time being.

The third intifada might start, thanks to Gvir.

And Netanyahu is just another hostage, of the even more extremist political parties in Israel. He appears to be quite happy with this role.

In the meantime, the Israeli protests again Netanyahu continue, the US seems to be putting some pressure on Netanyahu, how much will be clear in the coming weeks.

The failure of Israeli leadership on many levels is immense, in a democracy the electorate is not completely innocent. But we have seen more or less the same development in other countries, albeit with less disastrous results, for now.
