Amos Harel in Haaretz: ‘Eight months after proudly declaring victory in the war with Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have launched another campaign against the regime in Tehran.
This time, the objectives are particularly ambitious – the two leaders are openly discussing toppling the Iranian regime and are calling on the Iranian public to take to the streets and "take down" their government.’
And: ‘It is extremely difficult to topple a regime through external intervention alone, especially if it relies solely on airstrikes, as Trump insists.’
Supreme leader Ali Khamenei is dead. Some Iranians uncorked a bottle of champagne.
But enthusiasm for the post-Ayatollah world might ebb soon, even if total anarchy (Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan) can be avoided.
It seems that Hezbollah and the Houthis have little appetite to join the war. So perhaps no regional war.
For now, Donald and Bibi can pose as liberators in the making.
