Demands

Alliance

On the elections in Baden-Württemberg – FAZ: ‘For the CDU, the result, despite gains, is worse than hoped. Christian Democrats had repeatedly expressed confidence that they would soon provide the Minister-President in Stuttgart. For the SPD, which barely cleared the five percent threshold, the result is catastrophic.’ And: ‘The coalition committee will meet on Wednesday, and within the CDU/CSU alliance, there is speculation as to whether the SPD will make new demands in the hope of gaining an attractive profile with voters.’

The word ‘Unregierbarkeit’ (ungovernability) was not mentioned in the article, but the rise of the AfD, especially in the former East, will test the firewall that the other parties have put around the party.

The Greens, who won the election, didn’t do so by moving to the left but by turning the party into a conservative party.

Postponing ungovernability is as good as it gets.
