Laura Wisman in the Dutch newspaper NRC: ‘Stardust, an Israeli-American company, aims to develop technology to block sunlight in the stratosphere in order to lower the temperature on Earth. To this end, it raised $60 million (approximately €52 million.’
And: ‘Stardust was founded in 2023 by three researchers with an impressive track record. Its Israeli CEO, Yanai Yedvab, previously served as one of the chief scientists at the Israel Atomic Energy Agency.’
Blocking sunlight in the fight against climate change is like giving the planet an Advil.
Wisman adds: ‘That hope for a financial windfall touches upon one of the risks that opponents have been warning against for years: the deeper you are involved, the more tempting it becomes to actually go through with it—with all the attendant risks.’
An Advil for the planet, a financial windfall for some people. Side effects will be dealt with later.
