Inertia

Money

David Denby’s judgment on the movie “Nebraska”, directed by Alexander Payne, was rather harsh:

‘Payne’s movie “The Descendants” posed the question, Who will inherit Hawaii? “Nebraska” says that there’s nothing left to inherit. It’s a film devoted to inanition, made with considerable artistry, but it’s far from a work of art.’

(Read the article here.)

“Nebraska” has some, fine painful moments, but often the comedy seems trite and the concept a bit too sentimental. “Nebraska” tells us that rural America is inhabited by people without ambitions, without much interest in other people and without anything to talk about, except cars and money.

I felt closer to Hannibal Lecter than to any of the characters in “Nebraska” but perhaps I’m too neurotic to appreciate inertia and inanition.
