Smirk

Pale

A couple of weeks ago I had dinner with a friend. While we were eating our pasta she said: “The older you get the more beautiful you look.”
(See here.)
Tonight we had dinner again; she had invited me to her home. She was going to prepare baccala for me.
When I entered the apartment she said: “You look pale.”
“I had some surgery last week.”
Surgery is a good excuse for looking pale. There was a smirk on my face but I couldn’t help it. The smirk is part of my social skills.
“The butchers,” she whispered.
Then we started our meal. “The baccala is not good,” she said. “Too dry, too cold.”
“It’s delicious,” I answered.
After dinner she asked me: “Is somebody waiting for you? Perhaps outside on the street? Is somebody waiting for you on the street?”
“My work is waiting for me,” I said.
“Then you have to run,” she declared.
