I had missed Richard Linklater’s movie “Before Sunrise” (1995) but tonight I closed this gap in my knowledge.
Back in 1995 Janet Maslin wrote in the Times that “Before Sunrise” was “as uneven as any marathon conversation might be, combining colorful, disarming insights with periodic lulls.” (See here.)
She was right, but “Before Sunrise” was also on of the more romantic movies I’ve seen. It's also turning Vienna into one of the more romantic destinations in the world, but that's another topic.
Romance is not about the continuation of the affair, it’s about the end of the affair. And sometimes the shorter the better.
