“Diejenigen, die Griechenland heute aus der Euro-Zone vertreiben wollen, werden in der Mülltonne der Geschichte enden. Wenn die Kanzlerin ihren Platz in der Geschichte sichern will, ähnlich wie es Kohl mit der Wiedervereinigung gelang, dann muss sie sich heute erfolgreich für eine Einigung in der Griechenland-Frage einsetzen – samt einer Schuldenkonferenz, mit der wir dann bei null neu anfangen. Aber dann mit einer neuen, sehr viel strengeren Haushaltsdisziplin als früher.”

According to Piketty, those who are working to kick Greece out of the eurozone will end up in the garbage dump of history.

Piketty also insists that German’s “Wirtschaftswunder” was possible, because after World War II its creditors decided that debt forgiveness was the most sensible solution for historical and economical problems.

Perhaps in the near future we will say: the way to Greece’s debt forgiveness was one of the longest and most absurd courtships in history, but finally Greece and the EU are an item again. And it’s not a marriage of convenience; it’s true love.
